![]() For when the winds and sea forever obey Him, joy is inevitable. True joy resides inside hard seasons, living in every tear shed, every shout heard. Joy can’t be contained by a smile, a feeling, a phase, or passing emotion because it is always sustained by Him. Joy is the deep, sometimes quiet, “bubbly” assurance that He always fulfills the promises He makes. I used to think that helping people laugh and having a positive response to people’s troubles meant that joy resided in my heart. I used to think I had joy living inside of me because I could smile on demand. He resolved everything when He gave us Jesus. He resolved everything when he gave us His resolution. He gave us His Son, He gave us an empty tomb and and nails and a cross. These are the resolutions I can’t ignore or not trust because when God gave us new years resolutions He didn’t just give us words or promises, He gave us a person. These are the resolutions that aren’t based on foundations of sand but on a rock that will stand forever. These are the resolutions I invest in and the resolutions I believe in because I know these are the resolutions that work. His resolutions are unlike ours, because His are always fulfilled. A heart full of compassion, joy, justice, love, morality, hope, truth, grace, and freedom. God makes a resolution to give us better than a clean slate, He gives us a clean heart. God makes a resolution to forgive us forever, forgive us of everything, and wipe away every dirty stain we got on our slate. His resolution is to make us new, make us a light, make us fresh and redeemed. They are so much better than the ones we could ever muster up for ourselves (ex. When we finally say yes to the Lord, we say yes to His resolutions for us. He tells us to leave our old life far behind and step into a brand new life. He tells us to say goodbye to what was, the promises we broke and all that we lost that ruined. When we say hello to the Lord and welcome Him into our broken hearts and shattered hopes, it’s a lot like what we say a new year is. The only difference is He’s really good at keeping His resolutions. We aren’t the only ones who make resolutions, God’s a fan of them too. We are promised a new life of hope and an anchor and a foundation and love and everything we’ve been searching for. When we experience our new year, we aren’t just promised a new year but a new life. ![]() ![]() Instead it’s welcomed with a permeating light that breaks through all the darkness that was and puts an end to the lies forever. Our true new year’s celebration isn’t welcomed with champagne, drunk driving and a shiny, large ball that drops for some reason that’s unbeknownst to me. Where we are made new to the core and washed completely clean. There is one time in our life where we are greeted by a truly clean slate, where our dirty deeds and ugly motives are forgiven and forgotten and where all the promises and hopes that lie ahead are weight and guilt free and full of light and beauty and glory. New years would be more exciting for me if that’s really how things worked.Įach of us has one new year’s celebration, and it comes at a different point for all of us. I know that new years is a pretty exciting time for most people because it’s a time for people to make new beginnings and start a clean slate and hope for what’s to come instead of dread what’s already happened. I can’t remember if I made any new year’s resolutions last year, but if I did, they obviously didn’t turn out in my favor or else I’d be able to recall them a little better. Goodbye to last year’s failed resolutions and hello to 2013’s not-yet-failed resolutions.
